Bold, deep, and unmistakably real. A darker sheepskin for rooms that earn it.

Slate is the darkest colour in the Fells & Fleece range. A deep, rich grey with a soft lustre that shifts in different light, darker in shade, warmer where the sun catches it.

At 95cm x 60cm with a 6cm pile, this single sheepskin is sized for a dining chair, desk chair, or kitchen stool. The dark tone makes it a strong choice for lighter furniture — a pale wooden rocker, a white-painted bench, a linen armchair — where it creates contrast and draws the eye.

The wool comes from British longwool sheep raised in Yorkshire. The fleece is dense, soft, and naturally resilient, with the kind of depth you'll notice the moment you pick it up. Slate sheepskins hold their colour well, and the long pile gives each hide a subtle movement and texture that flat fabrics can't match.

It works in rooms with character. Against sage walls and warm wood, it feels grounded and considered. In a more minimal space — concrete, white, clean lines — it becomes a focal point. It's one of the more versatile darks you'll find in a natural material.

Use it indoors year-round or take it outside for garden seating. Sheepskin breathes and insulates, so it stays comfortable in warm weather and keeps you warm when the temperature drops. It handles light rain and dries quickly with a shake.

Expect slight variations in size, shape, and tone — that's the nature of a real hide, and part of what makes it yours. Learn more about our natural variations.

Why Slate Sheepskin

Dark Without Being Heavy
Most dark-toned home textiles absorb light and flatten a room. Slate sheepskin does the opposite. The long pile catches light at different angles, creating subtle variation across the surface. It reads as rich and warm rather than stark, which is why it works so well alongside natural materials like wood, linen, and stone.

Comfortable From the First Sit
A single sheepskin on a hard chair changes how it feels immediately. The 6cm pile cushions and insulates, wooden and metal seats feel warmer the moment you sit down. Wool breathes, so there's no sticking or overheating in summer. If you sit at a desk, a kitchen island, or a dining table for any length of time, it's a practical improvement that also happens to look right.

Made From What Would Otherwise Go to Waste
Our sheepskins are a byproduct of the meat industry. Instead of being discarded, these hides are selected, prepared, and turned into something lasting. The wool is biodegradable, naturally hypoallergenic, and resistant to dust mites, a better option for your home than synthetic alternatives, and a more responsible one.

Built for Daily Life
Longwool fleece is tough. It handles being pulled on and off chairs, sat on for hours, and taken outside for summer evenings. The dense fibres spring back after compression, and light spills or rain won't cause lasting damage. Shake it out, let it air, and it's ready again. This is a rug made to be used, not admired from a distance.
